Why You Feel Exhausted When You Start Healing

Have you started your healing journey and at first you were feeling SO much energy? Then all of a sudden it feels like you are hit with a ton of bricks and exhausted?  This is actually quite common.

You may “think” that when you start your spiritual healing journey, you will be feeling the happy-flowing, sunshine-filled experience.

However, that reality is just an initial part of your healing process.

I have had so many students ask me this question when they step into their spiritual healing journey:

“Why do I feel so  exhausted? I keep falling asleep when I meditate. Why am I so tired?”

I often say, healing sounds pretty, but has an atrocious process. It’s likely that you may even feel worse than before you started healing as you begin getting into the deeper layers of what needs to heal.

And this awareness can be very draining to your energy.

When you feel exhausted during healing, it’s a sign that you’re doing the work. It’s like a deep cleaning of your soul.

Just as a physical wound needs time to heal, so does emotional and spiritual healing. Doing this deep internal healing work takes you out of the reptilian brain (which is only looking for safety) and starts to move you up the brain stem.

As you take this journey, you will probably have a feeling of exhaustion.

Allow yourself the time and space to rest and rejuvenate your body, mind, and spirit. These parts of you are all interconnected and healing in one area can lead to healing in others. If you can see this exhaustion as your body finally recovering and coming out of a deep embedded stress response, it makes those earlier bedtimes and naps more inspiring.

Some common awarenesses that surface alongside this exhaustion are:

1. I’m speaking my true voice now. If you have spent your whole life suppressing who you really are, there will come a time during your healing when you cannot hold back your true voice, no matter what. It just emerges and can feel super messy.

This stage is a necessary step to see what was suppressed, what it’s connected to, and what now needs your healing attention. Having this perspective will help you realize that regardless of the discomfort of speaking your truth, it leads you to knowing yourself on a deeper level.

2. I‘m feeling the energy is more intense now, than ever. This is an intense time for us as lightworkers and as you awaken, you become more tuned to the subtle frequencies. Collectively, the energy is also stirring, which means we are being lit up and now able to see our shadows in a whole new way.

Old programming is coming up and out. Expect and know that positive shifts can come out of nowhere and change everything alongside your healing!

3. Affirmative Prayer is Available to me. Now that you are healing on your spiritual awakening journey it is common to start to feel a bit more connected to God, Divinity, The Universe.

One supportive tool you can use is saying affirmative prayers by intentionally claiming your positive shifts. Something like this: “Universe, I gracefully and wholeheartedly open to receive the positive shift that I’m ready to embody.” Rather than asking for something, you begin to affirm it with faith and trust. This is a different empowering way to use prayer.

After you connect in this way it is common to take a huge exhale, which activates your heart’s trust and supports you to go about your day with observing eyes.

You have the power to transform your life!

When you feel exhausted, know that it’s part of the process. Embrace it, and allow yourself the grace to heal at your own pace. You are stronger than you think, and you have the power to transform your life. Keep going, keep healing, and know that brighter days are ahead.

Remember, healing is not a linear journey. There will be ups and downs, but each step forward, no matter how small, is a step toward a brighter, more fulfilling life. Your healing breakthrough is right around the corner. It doesn’t matter how slow or fast you are going; just keep doing the healing work. Trust in the process, trust in yourself, and know that you are worthy of healing and happiness. I encourage you to support yourself every step of the way. It is ok to give yourself what you need.
