The Difference Between Keeping Your Spirituality Private Vs Secret

A spiritual awakening is a personal experience that we tend to keep private. Unfortunately, many people have blindly shared sacred experiences of their spiritual awakening with those they thought they could trust only to be met with rejection. This is the basis for many to then hold their spirituality closer to their chest. It is also common that people get so protective of this experience that this actually turns into secrecy. A private spiritual lifestyle is different than one based in secrecy.

It is so important to honor your path, and share details with only those who you trust deeply. What we want to stay aware of however, is when our privacy takes a turn for secrecy. So, what’s the difference between a private spiritual life and a secret one?

A private spiritual lifestyle can provide a sanctuary for self-discovery, self-acceptance and self-love. It is a sacred space where you can explore your Divine essence without judgment from others and get to connect with your soul that enriches your entire life experience.

On the other hand, secrecy stems from fear—a fear of being perceived as weird, eccentric or irrational by the public and your loved ones.

Spiritual Secrecy and Shame

If you find yourself shrouded in spiritual secrecy, it may be an indication of two things:

  1. You are terrified of external criticism, disapproval, or judgement.
  2. You are not ready to be questioned on parts of your spirituality you are still coming to understand.

I have seen both of these common reasons. It is ok that you do not yet feel secure enough to openly acknowledge your connection with the Divine, the Universe, or Spirit in fear of judgement. There may be underlying feelings of debilitating shame, which is a soul wound that can block your flow of self-love. The good thing about seeing this wound is you can now see what you need to heal.

Shame, when left unhealed, creates barriers between you and your ability to truly love and accept yourself.

After all, how can you expect others to love you fully if you do not love yourself?

Private Vs Secret

Recognizing the difference between spiritual privacy and spiritual secrecy is paramount. Spiritual privacy is an act of reverence for the sacred truth that resides within you, a space where you can engage your connection with the Divine in a way that feels safe and nurturing.

On the contrary, spiritual secrecy serves as a signal that there is inner work to be done, an opportunity for spiritual healing work. When you commit to an inner practice of profound self-understanding, self-assurance, and self-approval, your life just glows differently!

The biggest shift you can make is stepping into more of who you truly are. Because there is only one of you on this Earth. You are irreplaceable. I don’t care what you have been told over the years, there is no one that can take your place! So step into it. Step into you. Step into the truth of who you really are.

How to Let Your Light Shine

Freeing yourself from the shackles of shame requires spiritual healing work, and is an important step in your journey towards authentic spiritual healing!

When you do the inner work to heal your shame, you free yourself from that repeating low vibrational loop. This process of healing can be facilitated with deep inner shadow work, light healing meditations, affirmative prayer, and many other spiritual healing modalities designed to find the root wound and help you clear that energy.

The result always seems to be an embodiment of a whole new level of self-love and this supports your spiritual awakening process at the ground level.

Embracing your spirituality not only enhances your spiritual awakening but also infuses your entire existence with a newfound sense of beauty and purpose to assist you on this transformative spiritual healing path. If this topic hit home, we offer a free training called “Doorway to Love” that will guide you through the initial steps of this self-love journey. You can find the link here.
